FARM MAINTENANCE

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Person to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of our facilities, equipment, and grounds. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, experience with farm machinery, and the ability to perform various maintenance tasks related to general facility upkeep. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where safety, efficiency, and quality are prioritized.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on farm equipment, watering systems, and grounds keeping equipment
  • Operate heavy machinery and power tools safely and efficiently
  • Conduct inspections of equipment and facilities to identify potential issues before they escalate
  • Utilize hand tools and basic math skills for precise repairs and installations
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of outdoor watering systems
  • Handle heavy lifting tasks safely to move materials or equipment as needed
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and repairs
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols during all maintenance operations
  • Support the overall upkeep of the farm grounds and facilities to promote a safe working environment


EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in maintenance, farm machinery operation, or related fields is preferred
  • Mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools and heavy equipment
  • Familiarity with grounds keeping and general farm maintenance is a plus
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate heavy machinery effectively
  • Basic math skills for measurements, calculations and troubleshooting tasks
  • Prior experience working in agricultural or outdoor environments is advantageous but not mandatory; training will be provided as needed
  • This position could require a lead or supporting role in operating farm machinery for the production of hay and straw. Knowledge and experience in this area could increase your chances in securing this position

NIGHT FOALING ATTENDENT

Seelster Farms, in Lucan Ontario, is a large Standardbred Breeding Facility that is looking to add two individuals to our outstanding and knowledgeable team. We are in search of two individuals that are interested in learning hands on about foaling mares and the aftercare practices that go along with starting a foal off in an optimum environment. 


Consider this rare opportunity in gaining valuable knowledge from a farm that has been breeding, foaling and raising Standardbreds for almost 60 years. The successful candidate will be working through the night, monitoring our pregnant mares for signs of foaling, alerting our foaling team and working under our expert staff in facilitating a smooth transition into this world. We will be working with a fluctuating schedule of nights on and nights off with the average of 40 hours per week. Success in this position could lead to a full time position with health benefits.


Higher consideration will be given to candidates who have horse experience, have reliable transportation, can take direction well and is comfortable working alone and part of a team. Compensation is competitive, is paid weekly and will reflect in experience presented. A training period and farm orientation will happen in the new year and the position will officially start January 15, 2026.
